Professional tennis players are jump roping more and more, prior to a match and as part of regular training.
Jumping rope helps tennis players warm up safely and develop specialized skills they need to compete more effectively:
- Jumping rope develop coordination and balance.
- Jumping rope teaches players to stay on the balls of their feet and never be caught flat footed on their heels. The Two Foot, Alternate Foot and One Foot jumps should be combined with tennis footwork (moving forward-back and side-to-side) to develop custom routines.
- Jumping rope develops muscular power in arms and legs. Side Swing and Double Under jumps are especially effective.
- Jumping rope for at least 15 minutes develops cardiovascular endurance.
